Simple bookkeeping for businesses and the self-employed
Do you understand your accounting requirements? With Seewara, we offer a simple, transparent solution for businesses and the self-employed who want to keep track of their finances.
Who counts as a commercial enterprise?
Commercial enterprises include all companies that do not fall under the category of freelancers according to §18 EStG. This includes, for example, all commercial activities that are not exempt from the accounting obligation by law. Typical commercial enterprises are, for example, trading companies, craft businesses or limited liability companies (e.g. GmbH) that are either voluntarily or legally entered in the commercial register.
Limits for simple bookkeeping
Certain limits apply to commercial enterprises that are not required to keep accounts:
- Turnover limit: 800,000 euros
- Profit limit: 80,000 euros
If your business does not exceed these limits, you can use the simplified income statement (EÜR) instead of complex double-entry bookkeeping.
Self-employed persons according to Section 18 EStG
Self-employed persons who work in one of the catalogue professions are also affected by special regulations. The catalogue professions include, among others:
- Artistic activities
- Scientific activities
- Teaching and writing activities
- Educational activities
These professions are mentioned in the exhaustive list of §18 EStG and are considered to be self-employed regardless of the level of income.

What do you actually do as a Writer?
A writer is a person who creates texts, whether for literary works, specialist articles, screenplays or other written content. The main tasks and responsibilities of a writer include:
- Creative writing: writers develop stories, characters and plotlines for novels, short stories, poems or screenplays. They use their imagination and creativity to create compelling narratives.
- Technical writing: Many writers are also technical writers, creating content for scientific papers, articles or blogs. They conduct thorough research and present information clearly and concisely.
- Revising and editing: Writers revise their texts to improve style, grammar and clarity. This may require several drafts to achieve the desired quality.
- Research: For many writing projects, it is important to research relevant information and data to ensure the accuracy and credibility of the text.
- Target group analysis: Writers often need to understand their target audience and adapt their writing style and content accordingly to effectively address those readers.
- Collaboration: Some writers work with publishers, editors, agents or other authors to develop and publish their work.
- Market research: Writers, especially in the nonfiction or fiction field, monitor trends in the book market and analyse what resonates with readers.
- Publishing: Writers can either use traditional publishers to publish their works or they can choose to self-publish and market and distribute their books themselves.
- Public relations: Many writers engage in public relations to promote their books. This includes book signings, interviews and social media presence.
- Continuing education: Writers engage in continuing education to improve their skills, learn new writing techniques and keep up to date with trends in literature and writing.
Overall, a writer plays a crucial role in the creative industry, providing entertainment, knowledge and inspiration through their writing.
