What is the special chart of accounts SKR 03?
The special account system SKR 03 is a special account system developed by the Federal Association of German Tax Advisers (BStBK). It serves as the basis for the accounting of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Germany and is used particularly by companies that apply the income and expense accounting (EÜR).
In contrast to the SKR 04, which is used for industrial companies and primarily for drawing up balance sheets, the SKR 03 has a simpler structure and provides a clear overview, which is particularly advantageous for service companies and freelancers.
Key features of the SKR 03:
- Simple structure: The SKR 03 is based on a numerical classification ranging from 0000 to 9999. This structure makes it easy to understand the accounts and to customise them according to your business activities.
- Flexibility: The SKR 03 offers a high degree of customisation as many accounts can be left blank or redefined for company-specific requirements.
- Categories: Accounts are divided into different groups, including:
- Account class 0: Fixed assets
- Account class 1: Current assets
- Account class 2: Liabilities
- Account class 3: Goods receipt and inventory
- Account class 4: Operating expenses
- Account class 8: Financial income and expenses
- Account class 9: Closing entries and period
- Advantages: Thanks to its clear structure and focus on smaller companies, the SKR 03 offers simplified accounting that is well suited for digital processing in accounting programs.
The SKR 03 is therefore a popular choice for service companies, freelancers and smaller commercial enterprises that require an efficient and easy-to-understand accounting structure.
