What are exports?

Create a sales tax advance return

Export the data set of your choice under ‘Accounts’, for example for the period October 2024.

  1. You will then receive a zip file as a download in your browser.
  2. Unzip the file to obtain the xml file inside.
  3. Then go to elster.de or use this direct link to easily upload the xml file after registering with Elster.
  4. After you have uploaded the xml file to your Elster profile, it can be checked with just a few clicks.
  5. If there are no problems, you can send the advance VAT return for the selected period to your tax office.
  6. Please note that you will transfer a possible VAT back payment to the tax office. A refund is usually made directly to your bank account, which is known to the tax office.
